If you use Dropbox to share files and collaborate on documents, their latest update makes editing and uploading files a lot simpler.
It used to be that when someone sent you a link to a document, your only option was to download the file to your computer first. Working on files outside of Dropbox’s web app meant creating extra copies, which led to a higher risk of people working on multiple versions instead of having one synced file.
Now, when someone sends you a link to a document, you can preview it in your browser and click the new Open button. This automatically opens the file in a native app. From here, you can edit the file directly in the app and all of the changes you make will sync back up to the original document in Dropbox.
This is a much smoother and seamless process for people who work together on shared files through Dropbox. The new “Open” button will roll out to Dropbox users over the next few weeks. But if you can’t wait for the update, you can download the latest version of the Dropbox desktop app.
